Cienna Smith, a former Manheim Vikings cheerleader, has faced more challenges in her young life than most could imagine. Born with a rare genetic disorder called cystinosis, Cienna needed a kidney transplant at just 15 years old. Not long after her transplant, she was rushed to Hershey Medical Center with severe stomach pain and underwent emergency surgery for a perforated bowel. Despite a week in the hospital, her condition did not improve, and further tests revealed a rare post-transplant complication—PTLD, a form of cancer. Cienna was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she is now preparing to begin chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
This sudden turn has deeply affected her family—Ben, Krista, Riley, Colton, and Cienna. The need to travel long distances and stay far from home has made it difficult for them to be together, and work routines have been disrupted as they focus on Cienna’s care. The family is now facing mounting travel and lodging expenses, on top of the emotional and physical toll of Cienna’s illness. They have not yet received outside support and are relying on the kindness of others to help them through this difficult time.
Cienna’s family is grateful for any support and prayers as they navigate this journey. Every donation will help ease the burden of travel and lodging costs, allowing them to focus on what matters most—Cienna’s recovery. Your generosity means the world to them and brings hope during an incredibly challenging chapter.
My name is Colleen Shovestull, I am a friend of the smith family and my husband donated Ciennas kidney. We are fundraising to help support ciennas current, past and future medical bills and any other things she may need to help with her recovery.
Funds will be used for bills, supplies, for now and saved for later and the funds for them,
these funds will add with medical, travel, lodging and food expenses as the family travels from Glenville, Pa to Pittsburgh Pa.
cienna is currently getting treatment each week in Hershey Pa. This money will help with medical, travel expenses, food, gas and any other expenses the family needs. Any left over funds will be put into an account for Cienna because she is battling life long medical problems.
My name is Colleen Shovestull. I am organizing this on behalf on the Smiths because I am a family friend. I met Krista and Ben years ago when Krista and I volunteered as cheer coaches at the Manheim Vikings. Last spring, my husband Luke Shovestull became Cienna’s kidney donor. We want to continue to help the Smith family in any way that we can. Thank you for your support.
