To my family, friends & everyone else that finds this..
In April 2023, our family was shattered when my loving husband was in a almost fatal accident- he was hit by a truck on his motorcycle. The driver didn't see Christoph and took a turn in front of him and was ran over. He was found unconscious and had a collapsed lung. He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and they did their best to keep him alive. Hours later, doctors reported back that they were able to get him somewhat stable but the outcome wasn't looking good. Doctors predicted that if he did survive this, he would be in a vegetative state the rest of his life and would have no memory. He was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury due to the shearing of his brain (most of the damage on the right side of his brain) and both of his femurs were fractured. He was in a coma for about 3 weeks, on a ventilator for a month through his Trachea, on a feeding tube for 5 months, and had multiple surgeries- he had rods put in both femurs, sacral flap reconstructive surgery due to an infected pressure wound, colostomy surgery, and Achilles tendon lengthening to help with his "drop foot."
During this time we had a lot of prayers and support coming through. We were all strongly hanging onto faith & hope that he recovers from this tragedy. After almost 2 months of trying to stabilize him at the hospital, he started to respond to stimuli and started getting therapy. Christoph was then accepted into the Disorders of Consciousness program and was transferred to Shepherd Center in Atlanta for ongoing therapy- he was inpatient there for 5 months. He started to make a lot of progress during his time there and was then accepted into their outpatient therapy program.
Christoph has completely regained consciousness and got out of the wheelchair- he is able to walk with assistance, talk, eat, his memory continues to progress, he's able to enjoy the simple things in life (with limitations) and being with friends and family again. He continues to receive physical, occupational and speech therapy. Every day that passes we see improvement which overfills our hearts with happiness. The power of prayer is real, that's for sure.
Due to the nature of brain injuries, he is susceptible to seizures and since the accident he has had several. A couple of them has landed him back into the emergency room recently which was frightening.
As his wife, I've been his primary caregiver to get him back to complete health. We are adjusting to our new "normal" and living arrangements to receive ongoing care. My husband nor I have been able to work since last year and I'm not sure when that time will come but I have faith it will! In the meantime, we have medical bills piling up, expensive prescriptions to fill monthly, and other expenses/bills to pay.
Any donations to help our family get through this difficult time and his continuous road to recovery will be immensely appreciated and I pray that everyone who comes across this also receives an abundance of blessings. Even if you can't donate, please keeps us in prayers. I'm so grateful for all of it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story & if anything, I hope this gives someone else hope for what seems impossible. Anything is certainly possible!
With so much love,
Jessica
