We are reaching out with an urgent request to help support the ongoing, lifesaving treatment of our beloved family member, Christopher. Diagnosed with severe schizophrenia at 19, Christopher, now 46, has spent more than half his life battling this cruel and debilitating illness. Over the years, our family has watched in agony as he has fallen through the cracks of a broken mental health system —a system where individuals are cycled through brief hospital stays, stabilized with medication, and discharged while still sick, only to spiral back into crisis again and again. This degrading cycle is sustained by insurance companies that are unwilling to pay for anything except short term treatment. – the reason why so many with his condition end up homeless, impoverished, incarcerated or worse.

Two years ago, we feared we were losing Christopher. His suffering was acute and even his medical provider said, "There’s nothing more we can do." But then, in a remarkable turn of events, a generous family friend helped him access a PRIVATE treatment program at the Lakewood Residential Treatment Center in Florida—a level of care that, due to its cost, was out of reach for our family. What happened next was nothing short of miraculous. For the first time in his life, we saw Christopher make real progress. His stability, his clarity, and his well-being began to improve drastically, and we were able to witness the emergence of a side of him we had given up hope of ever seeing again.

However, despite this incredible progress, we are now faced with the daunting challenge of continuing his treatment, which remains out of reach financially. Because insurance will not cover the costs of his care, we are turning to our community for help. The specialists believe that with two years of continued treatment, Christopher has the potential to reach a level of stability and independence that we have long dreamed of for him. EVERY PORTION OF OUR GOAL PROVIDES THAT MUCH MORE TREATMENT AND STABILITY FOR CHRIS. IT ALL ADDS UP.
