Support Christina's Life-Saving Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Hello fellow supporters and friends! We would gratefully appreciate your help and support for Christina Porter as she prepares for her upcoming kidney transplant in May 2025. Christina’s friend, Sharon Watson, was tested and approved to be her live kidney donor. Thanks to Sharon’s enormous heart and selfless decision, Christina will be receiving the most unimaginable life-saving gift.
Christina has dealt with kidney issues for many years, but it wasn’t fully discovered until three years ago. Her dad was stationed in Camp Lejeune when Christina’s mom was pregnant with her. Christina was exposed in utero to contaminated water during critical developmental stages. It is highly likely this exposure is what has led her to have not only kidney disease, but other health issues as well.
Christina is currently in stage 5 kidney failure, otherwise known as the end-stage of renal disease. Her kidneys are severely damaged and working at less than 15%. She was scheduled to go in for a surgical procedure this upcoming Friday, April 4th so she could begin peritoneal dialysis, but because of her finding a match so quickly we hope to avoid having to do dialysis at all. If she were to take a further and rapid decline, then a port would be placed in her chest for traditional hemodialysis.
As you can imagine, there will be many medical and personal expenses associated with the kidney transplant. Christina has already started receiving expensive medical bills associated with donor testing. In addition to the large deductible that will need to be paid before the surgery, Christina will have to rent an AIRBNB in Nashville for several weeks for daily monitoring and appointments after surgery. Once she comes back home, she’ll still have to travel to Nashville weekly for quite some time to be sure there are no signs of rejection. The anti-rejection meds themselves are very costly as well. The expenses are adding up fast and any donations will certainly lessen the financial burden and just allow Christina to focus on her surgery and recovery.
Christina can’t begin to express the depth of gratitude she feels for the love and support she’s already received. Your loving comments on her transplant FB page and personal texts and calls have many times been the encouragement she’s needed to keep moving forward on her transplant journey. Thank you for being tangible reminders of God’s love and faithfulness!
