Support Christina Owens' Battle with Cancer
Donation protected
I am Stacey Scheer. I am reaching out for help to support my sister, Christina Owens, who was diagnosed with high-grade endometrial cancer on 10/22/2024.
She is a single-income family. She is a mother to a 19-year-old daughter and grandmother to a 2 1/2-year-old grandson who live with her part-time. She is a nurse, she is a giver, and she is independent.
She underwent a total hysterectomy (removal of her female organs) on 10/31/2024. Due to restrictions from this, her work will be quite limited for 6-8 weeks. Being in healthcare doesn't guarantee "good healthcare coverage." Part of this sad story was a requirement by the hospital that did her surgery for upfront payment of a $7500 deductible. Imagine not even having fully processed the news of having cancer and being told the imminence of surgery is critical and then... but you have to pay first!
Surgical biopsies revealed the cancer in the uterus (endometrial lining) had also spread to her right ovary. The types of cells involved with her cancer (serous and clear) have a reputation for growing and spreading rapidly.
She is having a port (access for IV medications) placed on 11/22/2024 and will be starting chemotherapy in the next couple of weeks. The full plan continues to unfold daily, but she will likely be getting treatments every 3 weeks for 6 cycles, and it is unclear at this time if she may be getting radiation as well.
At a time we are usually focusing on holidays and gatherings with the ones we love, she is finding added stress financially with missed work, anticipated health issues, and yes, January 1st... new medical deductibles. So I am asking in the spirit of giving and caring if you are able to contribute to help her with medical expenses, know your gifts will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to read her story. I will try and keep updates coming as we know more.
