UPD: Thanks to your support, Christina’s family and attorney successfully filed and won a habeas corpus petition, leading to Christina’s release on February 12.

Our Snow Maiden (Snegurochka) was detained by ICE.

It sounds like the opening of a bad play, but unfortunately, it’s true.

On the morning of Saturday, January 3, 2026, ICE detained Christina Arefeva at her home in Vancouver. ICE officers asked her to show the BI SmartLINK app, told her that everything was fine, and said they were simply taking her to have an electronic ankle monitor installed. Instead, Christina was taken into detention in Tacoma.

Christina is a deeply creative person, someone in love with theater, talented, sensitive, and generous. She has touched the lives of many in our community through her art and kindness. Right now, she urgently needs support.

Both Christina and her husband have legal status and were in the middle of their immigration process, awaiting their court hearing. This unexpected detention has left her family facing urgent legal fees and uncertainty.

We are asking for your help to support Christina’s family during this crisis. Your contribution will go directly to her husband to help cover legal expenses and provide some relief as they navigate this challenging time.

Сотрудники ICE попросили показать приложение (BI SmartLink), сказали, что всё в порядке и что её просто отвезут поставить электронный браслет. Но в итоге Кристину увезли в детеншн в Такому.

Кристина - творческий человек, влюблённый в театр, талантливый, чуткий, артистичный. Сейчас Кристине срочно требуется помощь. Пожалуйста, поддержите ее семью и сделайте перевод её супругу для оплаты услуг адвоката.

У неё и у мужа легальный статус, как и у большинства из нас. Они находились в процессе и ждали своего суда.
