Support Christian Kelly's BFA Thesis Film

This project is a short film for Christian Kelly’s senior thesis in the Elon University Cinema & Television Arts BFA program. After three years of intense study and hands-on work in film production, Christian is excited to showcase everything she has learned by writing and directing this project!

"We’ve Been Here Before" is a science-fiction drama short film with the logline: When a young woman enters an experimental trial that grants her the opportunity to delete painful memories in exchange for increasing her age, she must decide between living with the pain of the past and sacrificing the potential of her future.

A message from Christian (Writer/Director):

The concept for this film is inspired by my lifelong love for science fiction and has developed from themes that have been stuck in my head for years. Growing up reading books and watching movies where universal messages are centered around futuristic and imaginative scenarios, I have always dreamed of creating my own story related to these ideas. The main theme, or question, that the protagonist of this film will grapple with is: which is more important, the past or the future? This theme is interesting to me because of my passion for stories about the complexities of time and is relevant to anxieties in my personal life about the uncertainty of the future. I hope that this project will resonate with audiences because of the universal truth that everyone has memories that they would like to forget and often waste time looking back instead of forward. In addition to the writing process, I plan to create a unique visual language for the film with creative cinematography, sound, and editing. I am super excited to bring this concept to life with the help of faculty mentorship as well as talented friends and peers! After the last three years of diversifying my film production skills, I hope that my thesis will demonstrate how much I have learned from the Elon Cinema and TV program and how passionate I am about this project’s success.

Production Timeline:

This project has been in the works since spring 2024. At this point, the script is in the development stage and the planned shoot dates are November 15-17. This will be followed by an editing process that will finish in May when the short film will premiere at the Elon BFA Showcase.

The funding raised for this project will be used for production design, costumes, location rentals, film festival submissions, and meals for the hard-working cast and crew!
