My name is Christa Sturman and I was diagnosed with breast cancer a month ago. I'm thankful to have a very supportive family, but my medical bills after insurance are already over $8,000, and I still have a long journey ahead of me. I started chemo and will have to have surgery, then more chemo. I am still working full-time at a hospice agency, and also complete as-needed social work visits for a home health agency because I still need to pay bills and survive. I work hard, have a daughter at home, and have always been extremely independent. I put myself through school and got a master's degree in social work, and I've always worked 2-3 jobs. I've never had to ask for help, but I've also never gone through anything like this. It is very hard for me to do this. After chemo, I'm very sick, and have still been going to work. It's hard but I can't afford to miss days of work. I've always been a helper and never thought I'd be in the place where I would need this kind of help.
