Hi, my name is Chris and I am a 25 year old trans man living in Phoenix, AZ. I am raising money for RFF phalloplasty. Due to the lack of bottom surgeons in Arizona, I hope to have stage 1 of surgery in San Francisco in May or June of 2026, with the Crane Center. I’m very fortunate to have health insurance, but the remaining cost of surgery, being out of state while I begin recovery, and being off of work makes surgery inaccessible. The costs of surgery include medical bills from the surgeon’s office, hospital, anesthesiologist, post surgery care, pre-surgery electrolysis, as well as lodging, food, and travel to San Francisco. I hope to stay at the Quest House, a trans community house created for trans men and transmasculine people recovering from bottom surgery. They have a sliding scale which decreases costs some but is still out of my ability to pay. I have to stay in SF for at least three weeks post-op before I’ll be able to come home, assuming there are no healing complications. I will be in SF alone and will likely need some kind of home nurse to help me for at least the first week once I am out of the hospital. I will also have to be off of work for no less than 6 weeks. I’m very lucky to get 60% of my paycheck for the time that I’m on medical leave, but I live paycheck to paycheck right now and there is usually nothing left over each week with 100% of my regular paycheck. Student loan debt and credit card debt from top surgery, dental work, car issues and similar life expenses over the past couple years prevent me from saving money for surgery. I’m working overtime as much as I can to pay off debt and save for surgery, but with the peak holiday season over, OT opportunities are increasingly limited. That said, the overall cost of surgery is incredibly daunting. This fund is intended for stages 1 and 2 as I’m working towards getting a better job by the time I get stage 3 later in 2026. My flights and lodging (up to $50/night) should be partially reimbursed by my insurance after surgery, but that is a months-long process and I have no way to pay the up front costs. Any leftover/reimbursed funds will be given directly to other trans peoples’ personal surgery funds. I apologize for the length of this post but want people know the full picture of my situation so they can make an informed decision on whether they can support financially. These are very difficult times for the vast majority of us and I don’t take financial support lightly. Thank you for your support, no matter what form it comes in! It means the world to me! I’m happy to provide outside verification that I’m going through this process and will share receipts as I get them. Thank you for reading <3
