The people of Wolford, N.D., freakin' rock!

Why? My brother, Chris Peterson, was involved in a horrific work accident. Small-town North Dakota bands together. A community member called me and told me that people are eager to help my bigger middle brother and want to know how. They asked if I'd be willing to set up a Go Fund Me account for him.

Heck, yes! Let's get this ball rolling!

Chris, who services tires for farm and industrial equipment for Dakota Truck and Farm in Minot, received one of the worst injuries possible when two 700-pound tires hit fell on him on a service call near Bottineau, N.D. The weight of almost 1,500 pounds ended up splitting his pelvis!! That is one of the worst injuries one can receive. The pelvis supports our entire weight and organs. Chris will be in a wheel chair for at least three months, and the injury will likely take more than a year to recover from. Truth be told, he'll never function the same. My brother loaded with brute strength won't gain that back.

Chris has a long and painful recovery ahead of him. We all know that he's going to incur more expenses that what is covered. It's like getting into an auto accident that isn't your fault, you will likely end up getting screwed over. This will take a toll on him and his wife and children. He was humbled and moved that the Wolford community want to help! I told him that if people are searching for ways to help, let's not steal their joy in wanting to help - let them! Accepting help isn't an easy thing for our entire family.

Chris' entire family would like to extend a huge thank you to the Bottineau first responders and St. Andrew's in Bottineau. A big thank you goes out to Trinity hospital in Minot. His surgeon did an amazing job of piecing him back together, and the bedside nurses have been fabulous. It's because of all of you, his family isn't planning a funeral. We're ready to prep for recovery, which includes making his home handicap assessable.

Next stop: Rehab and physical therapy.
