On February 20th, Chris and her husband Trevor experienced a heartbreaking tragedy that took nearly everything from them in a matter of minutes.

That evening, they had just returned home after feeding their boss’s livestock. Chris was cooking while Trevor was trying to relight their buddy heater after it had shut off. During the attempt, propane leaked out. Because they were also using a propane stove, the gas ignited and the floor and stove door quickly caught fire.

They immediately called 911 and did everything they could to fight the flames, throwing water on it and using a fire extinguisher, but the fire spread rapidly.

As the flames grew, Chris ran toward the fire trying to reach their pets — their dog and two cats — determined to save them. One of their cats managed to escape through a window. Chris tried desperately to pry open another window to reach the others, even striking it and throwing her shoe at it in a desperate attempt to break it.

But the fire moved incredibly fast.

In just 15 minutes, everything they owned was gone.

Chris and Trevor both suffered burns to their arms, legs, and faces while trying to save their animals and stop the fire.

Tragically, their beloved dog Chevy was lost in the fire that night. Their cat Minerva survived the fire but was so severely injured that she had to be humanely euthanized the following day due to her injuries.

The emotional toll of losing their pets while also losing their home and belongings has been devastating.

They do have the opportunity to stay with Trevor’s parents in Montrose, Colorado while they recover, but they need help getting there and replacing some of the most immediate necessities they lost in the fire.

Funds raised will go toward:

• Gas to travel to Montrose to stay with family

• Replacing lost car keys, which were destroyed in the fire

• Basic clothing and personal necessities

• Pet supplies and care for their surviving cat

• Immediate essentials while they recover from their injuries

Chris and Trevor did everything they could that night, even risking their own safety to try and save their animals. Now they are facing the incredibly difficult process of starting over.
