Help Christopher "Redz" Ranthiti Cross the Finish Line : Support a brilliant law student with cerebral palsy in becoming an advocate for disability justice!
Welcome to the National University of Lesotho: home of the only law school in one of the poorest countries in Africa. It’s here that Christopher, a student with cerebral palsy, has fought against the odds to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer.
While most of us would have no trouble strolling across the quad, we might struggle to quote obscure legal statutes or formulate court-ready oral arguments. For Christopher, it’s the opposite. Thinking strategically about justice comes naturally to him. He loves to tackle big, thorny issues, with an approach that combines eloquence, relatability and whip smart analysis—all delivered with style and humour, in one of the two languages in which he’s perfectly fluent. But the everyday act of getting to class — down long hallways, up staircases, into inaccessible lecture halls — is something he can’t do alone.
That’s because Christopher has the use of only one hand. While his body refuses him mobility, his mind has carried him further than most of us could imagine. He’s fought his way through law school with brilliance, persistence, and the help of classmates who push his wheelchair, advocate for accessible classrooms, and even carry him when there is no other way. He was the first wheelchair bound student to obtain an undergraduate degree in a country where fewer than 1 in 20 people graduate from university. But he didn’t stop there: he pushed for admission to law school even as administrators pushed back, arguing that his physical incapacity was no grounds to bar him from realizing his calling: to champion disability rights and ensure no one following in his wake will face the same discrimination.
He’s made it so far: he is just 8 months away from graduating. Yet one barrier remains: transportation. His university is a 90-minute drive each way, there’s no public transit, and reliable accessible transport costs $1,000 per month.
This is the final stretch. Christopher has already secured tuition, books, and the access to digital tools he needs to succeed. With your help, he can cross the finish line, earn his law degree, and begin the work he was born to do: champion disability rights and build a more inclusive future in Lesotho. In a country reeling from the twin punches of 20% tariffs and the sudden cancellation of USAID programs, poverty and inequity are growing. Every contribution removes one more obstacle from Christopher's path and gets him closer to a day when his voice in the courtroom will speak for so many who cannot be heard.
