As many of you know, in mid-January our dear friend Chris went to the ER with severe pain and other alarming symptoms. After several days of uncertainty, he was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis—an incredibly serious and rapidly progressing infection that causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Without prompt treatment, it can often result in death or permanent disability.
Chris spent 11 days in the hospital undergoing intensive treatment. He also required surgery on his knee, which became severely infected as a result of the meningitis. He is now home, but his recovery is far from complete. Chris continues to take medication to fight the infection and remains under close medical supervision for both the meningitis and his knee. Although he is slowly regaining strength, the road ahead is long, and recovery will take time.
The medical bills have already reached the amount reflected in this fundraiser and continue to increase as Chris requires ongoing medication, monitoring, and medical care. With reduced income and limitations in health insurance coverage, the financial burden is—and will continue to be—significant and overwhelming.
Anyone who knows Chris knows he is a loyal and dedicated coach, friend, boyfriend, brother, son, and so much more. He has always been caring, reliable, and selfless, showing up for others without hesitation. Now it’s our turn to show up for Chris, just as he has for so many of us, and ensure that financial stress does not stand in the way of the care he deserves. Please consider donating any amount that feels meaningful to you to support him during this incredibly challenging time.
