Support Chris Thompson in His Fight Against Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma Cancer

The Thompson/Cross family has recently received devastating news— Chris has been diagnosed with Stage 4 renal cell carcinoma that has spread from the kidneys to his spine, hip, femur, elbow/humerus. The cancer is quickly deteriorating/fracturing his bones and this is keeping him in constant, unbearable pain.

This diagnosis has come suddenly and has completely changed life as we know it. He is facing several major surgeries in the coming weeks. He is currently at Vanderbilt and we know he has a phenomenal team of doctors and surgeons . This upcoming week the Orthopedic Oncology team will perform his first surgery, removing the tumor on his elbow/humerus known as Total Elbow Arthroplasty. This is the standard "elbow replacement" where the damaged joint is replaced with a prosthetic hinge made of metal and plastic. Next will be the same type of surgery to go in “clean up” from these nasty tumors then to stabilize/replace his femur ASAP before it also breaks in half. His spine will be the third and hopefully last surgical possibility. The 1st and possibly 2nd surgery are so that he can even begin radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

Chris and his wife Caroline are both self-employed, and this journey will require them to step away from work for an extended period of time. Between medical bills, travel, time away from work, and daily living expenses, the financial burden will quickly become overwhelming.
