Support Chris Scott - Chemo Round 2

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Leah and I am starting this fundraiser for our friend, Chris Scott, who has been on his cancer journey since fall of 2020. He's my cancer cohort. We were diagnosed with different cancers just months apart. I hate either one of us have to walk this road but I'm grateful to have a friend to learn how to float and fight through this cancer journey with.

I know we are all fighting a battle of our own but if you have just a little to share today, I ask that you share it with Chris & his family.

Chemo & surgery are just two small words that don't fully encompass all he has experienced since then. What he was hoping to be a one round of cancer treatment has turned into two. Originally he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, got treatment, was able to recover for a short time, only to be met with scan results after the holidays that the cancer has spread to his liver. He is now facing another round of chemo and possible surgery.

When Chris first started his journey, he started an online journal to keep friends and family updated on his treatment details, his progress, but also his experiences and his heart. When you read Chris' entries, they talk about the hard stuff but he always steers the reader to hope or to the silver lining leaving them with anticipation of what is to come. Through his journal entries, he is the one reassuring us that everything will be ok. Those who know him best, know he enjoys the cathartic process of writing and sharing his story with his friends and family. He feels remiss when his body is just too tired to write or too much time passes without an update. He truly is grateful and feels supported through the writing and sharing process. But he needs our support in one more way now and it's time for us to assure him that things will be ok.

What Chris does not fully share in his writings is how hard the impact of a cancer journey is on the other aspects of life. Cancer patients not only have to rebuild their body but they need to rebuild every aspect of their life. Chris & his wife Desiree always make it look easy to carry the weight but as a cancer cohort (we were first diagnosed and went through cancer treatment about the same time) I know what it feels like to have another year pass and another large insurance deductible become due within the first few weeks of the year. Chris & Desiree have had to fully pay 3 insurance deductibles in the last 16 months due to the way the end of the year fell. After a second cancer diagnosis and a trip to MD Anderson in Houston, with several more to follow, are all unforeseen expenses that add up so quickly.

Full disclosure, Chris has no idea I'm creating this page for him. Again, Chris & Desiree make taking on any struggle look easy and they always figure it out no matter the size of the mountain infront of them. Which is why I don't think Chris would ask for his friends and family for help in this way but quite honestly - when you're in the fight of your life, you don't know what to ask for. So, I am asking for your support to help Chris & Desiree while they continue to still put one foot in front of the other during Round 2 of Chris' cancer journey.

The money raised will go to medical expenses, travel expenses, dietary needs, and be an overall stress reliever for the Scott family.
