Hello, I’m Chris Mezza, a film student at Hofstra University, hoping to raise money for my senior thesis film, "Miles Away From Home".
Inspiration:
I was looking through old photos a few months ago, and when that one of myself above popped up, I started crying. I was very depressed through high school, but convinced myself those feelings did not matter. Then in college, it all started to come out, and for a while, it felt like I couldn't function.
If I were to make a movie for my younger self, I hope this would be it. A coming-of-age story that takes an honest look at how loneliness and self-destruction come along easily while growth and real connection are difficult. Also, that it's okay to be human.
Synopsis:
In the summer of 2011, 20-year-old Grant comes back home after washing out of the army. Hoping for normalcy, he is going camping in the woods for the weekend with his brash little brother Billy. Tagging along is the more sensitive Micheal, Billy’s best friend. Together, they're all miles away from each other, until they can't be anymore.
Final Thoughts:
I am very happy to have been able to spend the past four years studying what makes sense to me. I am grateful to be surrounded by classmates who understand how it feels safe to look someone else in the eyes from behind a camera.
Donations raised will go to:

-Food/Travel for Cast/Crew
-Additional Production costs
