My name is Chris Meadors, i am originally born and raised in Virginia, in a town known as Norfolk. I’ve had a long journey through life, first starting with the loss to my biological mother; who i spent 18 years with, while i was about to go off to college to play football a lot changed. I have two sisters that i left to go to college in Wisconsin. I only left to play football, because that’s what made mommy happy; she loved to watch me, although she was struggling with bills and keeping food on the table, she did NOT miss me playing ball. So, i left for college not really ready but out of grief and in brokenness. After getting to college, i was lonely, had nobody and football was all i had. I reached out to my God Father who helped my mom raise me, he was a pastor, he helped me find Jesus. I ended up long story short; having a great fall camp and then dislocated my shoulder needing surgery. Which ended my football season and really messed my head up. I didn’t have any family or friends and now i wouldn’t have football. With all that i just turned out of school, and fell back into old habits. Didn’t stick to my plan and didn't stay focused. Then COVID hit and everyone was sent and i got my surgery and checked out. Not knowing when my next opportunity would come, i began rehab and went to community college in Tampa. I moved in with my God parents who helped raise me since i was 3 months. Gave my faith and God another try and kept working out and going to school. And 6 years later i would step into an opportunity at Webber International University. This time here not only gives me an opportunity but i lost my God Dad a month before reporting to campus for football. He was my rock, he helped me grow into the mature man i am today, he taught me what to do with the football. So not only is Webber my opportunity but this is ALL i have now. I have family of course, but i am talking about the people who held the most “substance” in my life is gone. I don’t want to be a statistic, that’s what i grew up around. It’s easy to be that, but i want to be better, i want to change the family cycles. I feel as if this could be my last opportunity. I’m grateful for Webber and i’m still struggling on the financial side, but from my journey, i guess it’ll be worth it. If there is any advice or help i can have with that would be amazing, because i am still ineligible.
