I'm filmmaker/musician Chris Malinowski, and I'm raising funds for my second feature film "Daniel Le Flou", a contemplative arthouse drama/mystery.
"DANIEL LE FLOU" is the story of a precocious teenager, Luanna, who befriends a middle-aged homeless man, Devon, a drifter in peril in her rural Pennsylvania town. The two share an eccentric, quick kinship until Luanna witnesses Devon's murder. Months later, Luanna attends college at a school in upstate New York, where she stalks a restaurateur and family man, Daniel, who she believes to be the late-Devon's doppelganger.

My first feature film "Yes, Your Tide is Cold and Dark, Sir." was shot in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware for $150,000 with 17 crew, 56 cast, and 25 filming locations. An existential drama, the film streams on Amazon Prime. I walked away from my follow-up film "The Last Time I Saw You Blessed", a $325,000 feature, because I wasn't able to maintain final cut of the picture. After which, I decided that my next feature would be crafted utilizing a small, skilled crew, an organic cast of regional/non-union performers, and practical locations near my home. I work, exclusively, with cinematographer Ian Mosely-Duffy and editor Colby Bartine. The three of us have worked on numerous projects together, including "Yes, Your Tide..." and a plethora of award-winning music videos for my band The Collingwood. Both Colby and Ian have extensive cinema/t.v. production credits, national and international.
Why is the budget so low for a feature film? Ian, Colby, and I have developed a rhythm and a succinct production method that works to our advantage. Keeping our crew minimal and tight allows for maximum freedom and ample creative space, permitting time for improvisation and quick location moves. The production process and the narrative unfolding of this film is akin to Wim Wenders' early German work "Alice in the Cities" and "Kings of the Road". To add, Hong Sangsoo's atmospheric/minimalist "On the Beach at Night Alone" and "Tale of Cinema" are influences. Tight, quiet, meaningful cinema. Small crews. No flash.
DONATIONS: You may donate as much or as little as you wish. Every contribution is greatly appreciated. Monies will be utilized to pay modest fees to cast and crew and to keep us fed and upright throughout our process.
The mood-driven, actor-centered "Daniel Le Flou" will film in Newark, Delaware and both Landenberg and Kennett, Pennsylvania in summer of 2026, with pick-up shots lensed in Ithaca, New York.
