Just as Chris was about to prepare his classroom for a new school year, he was rushed to UVM Medical Center on August 21, where he would begin a new chapter of his life. Shockingly, doctors found a glioblastoma brain tumor, which is extremely aggressive. The medical team immediately concluded surgery was needed. Within one week Chris had two operations, the first removing 90% of the tumor. The second removed more, but not all of the remaining tumor.

Chris and his family now have to concentrate on the journey ahead. Chris will have ongoing chemo and radiation treatments. Both of these life-saving measures will be challenging, yet Chris is moving forward with strength and courage; he is absolutely determined to beat cancer.

Living in upstate New York is tricky, as Chris’s medical care is two hours away. Ongoing trips to Burlington, Vermont will be necessary. Chris’s wife, Amanda, will be with him every step of the way, as will his three sons, Devon, Avery, and Spencer.

Chris has been an active part of both the Poultney and Whitehall communities for the past 35 years. He has been a beloved teacher and coach to decades worth of students and athletes, supporting them and their families year after year.

Chris raised his boys in Poultney, and watched them become young adults during high school at Burr and Burton Academy. Devon and Avery have remained in the Manchester/Poultney area, while Spencer has ventured to Long Island.

The Fowler family needs to be together to support each other during the next several months. Your donations will help offset medical, transportation, food, and lodging expenses.
