This is Chris.

Chris is a 43-year-old young man with cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, cone dystrophy (legally blind), and scoliosis. My daughter and Chris have been dating for the past 13 years. My daughter is 34 years old and has autism as well. They met at a day program 13 years ago and have been together ever since. Their "dating" consisted of a couple of visits per year with each other for only an hour or two for the first 11-12 years and nightly FaceTime calls when Chris was allowed. Chris' mother does not approve of their relationship. Chris states his mother has been abusing him since he was in his teens. Over the years, the police had to be called to Chris’ home on several occasions because of the violence toward Chris, but they never believed him. Chris' father is an ex-police officer and would be summoned every time the police were called. He did nothing to help Chris. His father has been recorded threatening Chris with serious physical harm. Chris' father would always "smooth things over" when there was any police involvement, as Chris’ mother and father called it. Chris' mother has done everything she can to separate Chris and my daughter since the beginning of their relationship. Well, after 13 years, they are still in love and now finally have a future together.

The reason for this is that Chris moved in with my daughter and me on December 2, 2022, after he suffered the final violent physical, verbal, mental, and psychological abuse from his mother. Around 8:00 p.m., Chris called me to come and get him, which I did, and he has been with my daughter and me ever since. They were married in November of last year. Chris proposed at Disneyland. It was magical and they couldn't be happier. All they want is to be together.

Chris' mother, father, and sister filed for conservatorship early 2023, all of them Chris' abusers during his lifetime. Chris has never been conserved by his parents at any time in his life. Chris is extremely high functioning. He is on several medicines and has recently been put on anti-anxiety medicine due to the stress of this situation. The violent fights and verbal abuse led to Adult Protective Services being called months prior to Chris coming to live with me and my daughter. Chris' mother had bitten him on top of his head, leaving a large open bleeding gash. This started all the investigations by APS. Chris' mother is also being investigated for Social Security fraud.

Right now, we are on our third attorney who is blessing us with his work for a lower cost. There is a trial in December of this year. We are out of funds and need your support to get us through to the end. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars plus since December 2, 2022, on attorney fees. Just the trial cost will exceed $18,000. At this time, Chris, his wife, and I are asking for your help, no matter how small, to finish this battle so that he and my daughter can get on with their lives. He wants to live with my daughter and me. The judge will decide in December but will base her judgment on what Chris wants. What Chris wants is to be with his wife, relax, and do the things he loves without the constant fear of his mother following him, just waiting for the chance to grab him, all against his will, which she has done a few times since he moved in with us. Chris has severe trauma from years of violence and abuse. He wants peace in his life. His mother wants his Social Security money. Chris is terrified of his mother's constant terror, even now. We have a long way to go for Chris to be truly happy, this being the first step. I pray every day and night for this outcome to be in Chris' favor. Your help will go a long way to keep a smart, loving, innocent, funny, talented, patient, strong, kind, disabled young man and my daughter from his abusive family.
