Chris Du Plooy is a strong believer in Jesus Christ, a devoted husband to his wife, Martie, and a proud father to their young son, Chris Jr. He has spent his life sharing his passion for hunting as a professional outfitter in Limpopo, South Africa, building Chris Du Plooy Safaris from the ground up. Chris is not only a respected member of his community but also a cherished friend to many, including myself.
In 2011, Chris was diagnosed with a mixed germ-cell tumour. After completing chemotherapy, he responded well to treatment and remained in remission for an incredible 12 years. Sadly, in 2024, Chris faced a new challenge when a large mass was discovered in his posterior mediastinum. This required surgery, followed by further chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In 2025, Chris was diagnosed with a new lesion consisting of mixed germ-cell tumour and malignant teratoma, which has shown chemo-resistant progression. The mediastinal mass is now exerting pressure on his trachea and oesophagus, leaving him unable to swallow and dependent on a port for nutrition, fluids, and medication. His most recent CT scan shows continued tumour growth, and the situation is urgent.
Chris has been referred to the specialised oncology unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, where he has been offered a potentially life-saving treatment: two cycles of Lutetium-177 FAPI therapy. This promising clinical trial offers hope, but the treatment is not covered by medical aid and comes at a significant cost. Funds raised will help cover Chris's medical bills, travel and lodging during treatments, and daily living expenses for his family.
