Support Chris Devoe during his cancer fight

Chris Devoe — bringer of joy on the dance floor, creator of gorgeous, soaring electronica, and co-proprietor of our music den Commune ATL — is heading into a tough stretch. On Tuesday, he started a six-month course of treatment for stage 3 colon cancer: five weeks of radiation, four months of IV chemo, and then, come January, surgery.
The DJ gigs, the business of launching and running a bar, the 15 years he's spent making music for the Cartoon Network, none of it provides great health insurance coverage. And none of those pursuits offer short-term disability or even paid time off. Even before that first treatment this week, Chris is on the hook for more than $8,000 in out-of-pocket medical bills. We anticipate the full course of treatment will approach $20,000. That's tough for anyone, especially someone who's devoted so many waking hours of the past two-plus years to Commune: a demanding year of building out the space and a frenetic 15 months of steering the new concept to success.
It's our hope that Chris can now devote his time and strength to his treatment, without having to worry about how to afford it or how to make up for the lost wages. We're so grateful for all that Chris gives us as an essential member of the Atlanta music scene, as an orchestrator of good times at Commune, and most of all as a steadfast friend. Let's do what we can to help.
