Chris has been diagnosed with advanced stage colon cancer.
For the last 9 months or so, he has been in and out of the hospital with ongoing and unrelenting stomach pain. Doctors believed it was an abscess related to Diverticulitis and were consequently treating it with antibiotics and percutaneous drains.
Based on the recurring and worsening symptoms, surgeons finally decided to go in and surgically remove the infected/abscessed tissue. While operating, doctors found a large mass that had pierced through all layers of the sigmoid colon as well as nearby tissues, lymph nodes, and organs. Pathology was able to immediately confirm the mass to be cancer (adenocarcinoma).
Surgeons removed what they could and once Chris heals from this major procedure, he'll be starting radiation and chemotherapy.
Though we are all still in quite a state of shock, it's time to begin to "rally the troops" and solicit support: financially, logistically, and of course, emotionally. Chris is blessed with an incredible group of friends out where he lives, in Denver, Colorado. They have stood by his side through this seemingly unrelenting journey of doctor's visits, hospital stays, etc. We are so incredibly grateful for the support they've provided throughout these past two years (even without knowing it was cancer). Our mom, Kathy, has now relocated to Denver and will stay there indefinitely as Chris begins the treatment part of this journey.
The situation is complicated by the fact that Chris is uninsured. Sadly, this was not a benefit offered to him by either of his employers. He has been approved for an in-house program through Denver Health to supplement the costs of chemotherapy (and hopefully radiation). Despite this blessing, we are still facing a mountain of unexpected expenses.
Our family will be doing anything and everything in our capacity to save my brother's life. He is a good man with a pure and sensitive soul. He is strong, brave, and ready to take on this fight. We've been astonished by his positive outlook and incredibly proud of how he has handled this devastating diagnosis. If you know Chris, you know he is deeply, deeply competitive :). We have no doubt he will rise to this challenge and WIN.
Every dollar donated will be directly deposited in Chris' account to help offset the costs of:
- Copays
- Prescription medications
- Ostomy supplies
- Supplemental nutrition/weight gain
- Rent/housing expenses while he is unable to work
For now, we are leaning into a deep, deep Faith that God will somehow, someway provide us with the ability to meet all of Chris' needs. Thank you for your time, consideration, and ongoing prayers.
