Hi, my name is Corie, and I’m raising money to save my cat’s life.
Seven years ago, I lost a very special cat to a urethral blockage. So when my male cat, Chowder, seemed to be in pain and stopped peeing today I immediately panicked. I knew exactly what this could mean.
I started calling every vet I could find, explaining my situation and asking for help. Each one told me to apply for CareCredit or Scratchpay, but I’ve already been declined for both. I explained that I was willing to make payments or even take out a loan from my 401k, though that would take time for the check to arrive. I felt completely helpless, breaking down in my bedroom knowing he needed urgent care but feeling like I had nowhere to go.
Finally, my prayers were answered when an emergency vet told me they could see him if I could pay the exam fee. I rushed him in, and they confirmed my fears. He was blocked. They assured me his condition is treatable and we caught the blockage early on. The vet staff agreed that it didn’t feel right to put down a cat who can be saved, and they even went above and beyond to apply for grants on his behalf. Thanks to their compassion, $1,000 in grant funds were approved to help with his care.
After the grants, I’ll still owe between $1,800 and $3,000 once Chowder is discharged. As a last attempt to avoid taking out a loan from my 401k, I’m reaching out for help from my community.
Some people have told me I’m an idiot for spending so much to save a cat, but if the only thing standing between his life and death is money, then I’ll do whatever it takes. Chowder is only four years old, full of love, and has so many cuddles left to give.
Any help, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this, means the world to me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me give Chowder the chance to come home healthy again.
