Help Ashley's Family After Tragic Loss
Donation protected
My parents recently took in their daughter, Ashley Ward, and granddaughter, Chloe, after their house burned down. Previously, Ashley had been diagnosed with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT); it's a genetic form of severe COPD.
On December 19th, around 3:30 a.m., my father, Bill Ward, came downstairs and Ashley was sitting on the stairs. He asked her why she was up, and she said she was having a hard time breathing. He told her to raise her arms, in attempt to help her breathing, and asked her if she wanted him to call 911; she shook her head yes.
He called and put them on speakerphone so he could help Ashley hold her arms up. Within seconds, she seized and went limp. He put her on the floor and checked for her pulse and breathing. There was none. He started CPR and continued until the paramedics showed up and took over. Ashley never regained consciousness.
Ashley Ward was a beautiful, kind young woman. She loved to bake. She'd just turned 32.
She is leaving behind a wonderful, smart, 11-year-old daughter.
My parents are now facing huge, unanticipated and unpredictable financial burdens.
This situation is hard enough as it is; losing a child so young is unimaginably heartbreaking, but anything you can spare to assist my parents with such a tragic loss would ease the stress of it all.
