Support Chip McKean in his Next Phase of Recovery
Donation protected
Fifteen months ago, Chip McKean was fighting for his life following a bike accident that left him in a prolonged coma. This past December, our family celebrated Chip’s progress, which has amazed his medical teams, therapists, and everyone who loves him. At this time, we are updating Chip’s Go Fund Me page to share his progress and to ask for additional support.
Chip’s physical health is in a better place, due to the expertise and compassion of his doctors, nurses, and therapists. He still has loss of vision in his right eye, loss of hearing in one ear, and key deficits in his brain function, including memory. Chip has been working with determination to overcome these challenges through occupational, speech, and physical therapies.
In the upcoming year, the goal is for Chip to improve his balance, mobility, language production, cognition, and communication skills, and to increase his community engagement through programs for adults who have neurological challenges. Additional therapies—art, music, aphasia, TBI (traumatic brain injury) movement exercise, and speech interventions—will stimulate Chip’s brain functions and motivate him to keep going. Unfortunately, none of these evidence-based therapies are covered by insurance.
We are humbled by our community’s support and generosity. Chip is looking forward to starting swim lessons, going on field trips, and making new friends in his upcoming classes, if we can make them happen.
We hope you might consider making a further contribution to Chip’s Go Fund Me to support this next phase of his recovery.
Happy new year, and our best wishes for everyone’s health.
