Josefina, lovingly known as China, is my aunt who lives in the Dominican Republic. She is the heart of our family—funny, charismatic, and famous for making the best fried chicken. China loves spending time at the beach, enjoying delicious food with great company, and singing her heart out at karaoke. Her joyful spirit and warmth bring people together, and she always finds a way to make others smile, even in tough times.

Recently, China was diagnosed with leukemia. This diagnosis has changed her life and the lives of those who love her. She is unable to work, so her daughter has taken on the responsibility of supporting her and paying all the bills. The costs of ongoing treatments and medical appointments are overwhelming, and it’s been a challenge for the family to keep up with everything. Despite these hardships, China continues to face each day with courage and her signature sense of humor.
