We are Paolo and Chinomnso (Chimo), two people from opposite sides of the world who met in Malmö Sweden. Paolo was born in Mexico, moved to Spain, USA and then settled in Sweden. Chinomnso comes from Nigeria, lived in South Africa and now in Sweden. We met each other while studying a Master’s program in Leadership for Sustainability but what connected us is the vision we have to drive sustainable change in organizations.
This led us to start SustainMe during our studies to share the sustainability journeys of individuals and the sustainability work they are doing in their organizations
Even though we both have technical backgrounds with Chimo being an Electrical Engineer by profession and Paolo having a Bachelors in Computer science, we felt that we needed to contribute more to society with our various skills and that’s why we started Futurely .
So what is Futurely ?
Futurely is a multicultural and multidisciplinary sustainability transition consultancy that aims at helping organizations become pioneers in sustainability. The reason we started Futurely is that we believe that businesses, as well as individuals, have a responsibility to drive systemic change and solve complex societal challenges. We do this through our consulting services and creating sustainability tools and content for organizations and individuals to continue on the journey towards sustainability. We understand that sustainability challenges are complex, therefore we all need to come together to create solutions required to solve these challenges!
Why do we need your help!
We need your support to raise 125 000 SEK to help us cover our rent and living expenses for the upcoming year while working on Futurely. We need your support and help to bring our vision to reality. The reality is that COVID has brought a lot of challenges to all of us and we have tried various ways to sustain ourselves. As two people who have moved many times, we understand the struggles of trying to settle in a new environment time and time again. We have applied for several jobs, joining several network opportunities, and after a 6-month long administrative process, we got into a government program (starta-eget), where we get 3500kr. It is truly difficult to get by in Sweden with that amount and therefore WE now turn to you for your help!
How will the money be spent?
The raised amount of 125 000 SEK will be divided between us (Paolo and Chinomnso) to help cover our living expenses for the upcoming year in addition to the starta-eget money.
120 000/2 = 60 000 ( per year)
60 000/12 = 5 000 (each person per month)
5000 + 3500 (start-eget) = 8 500 (each person per month)
The total amount will be used to cover our rent cost (4k-5k per month) and living expenses (approx. 4k per month) for 12 months with frugality
Any extra money received from the Gofundme campaign will be used for the platform fees and to purchase material for creating online course content.
Why this cause means so much to us!
Having lived and moved across the world since a young age, we have seen first hand the common challenges we face as humanity and our longing for a better and more equal world.
For me Paolo, I lived for 10 years without a social security number and this experience drove me to understand the systemic challenges, beliefs and values that are incongruent with sustainability. Instead of letting those things define me, I choose to pursue the knowledge and expertise needed for me to create a change and heal the pains that come from them.
For me, Chinomnso, I have witnessed the immense socio-economic challenges people face in my context of origin - Africa, and the impact these challenges have on us. I keep asking myself, how can I change the narrative and make a difference?
Ultimately, we don’t want anyone to suffer and go through the adversities that we went through. We truly believe we can do better and act better for the planet and for each other. Even though we both have Engineering/technical background, we deeply understand we all long to belong somewhere and for a better world, hence why we chose to work with sustainability. We believe in the work we do and are very passionate about making a positive impact on society. Although we come from different parts of the world and have varying life experiences, our strong desire to do good in society drives us and keeps us going. Our pledge is to use our unique knowledge and expertise to create a sustainable impact on society.
