Freeze Line, "Chilly" was diagnosed with a Keratoma in his right hind foot this week. This is a benign tumor of the hoof that is fairly rare. Chilly's Keratoma has grown into his coffin bone, requiring surgery and a 3-4 month rest period, followed by a slow return to exercise.
Chilly is an ex-racehorse who was bred at Dixiana Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Chilly was sold for $80,000 as a weanling and had career winnings of $43,000, winning two races.
Chilly had a notarized agreement attached to his registration papers stating he was not to be sold for slaughter. Despite this, he was purchased from Bowie, Texas slaughter yard in 2022, and he is now a lovely english jumping horse at Metro West Riding Academy.
Chilly has had surgery to help him with his breathing, which left him without the ability to whinny. As a result, Chilly is a master at communicating his needs with his body. He pulls his blanket from his stall door when he wants it changed, and his halter from the fence when he is ready to come in from the field.
Chilly was one of four horses I trailered cross-country with me when I moved from California to Massachusetts. It took Chilly almost 18 months to acclimate to living in Massachusetts, but he has become a hardworking lesson horse who also goes to the shows with students, Chilly has a great work ethic and many fans at the farm.
Your donations will help this amazing horse have his surgery and continue to be a member of our teaching team
