Hi, I’m Cheyenne Stanley — and I’m raising funds to take legal action against a company that exploited me, misclassified my role, and left me thousands of dollars in debt.
After completing over 106 hours of full-time work, attending daily video meetings, and being expected to work Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 (and beyond), the company I worked for disputed 2 payments (two 53 hour work weeks) made to me — wiping out my income and leaving my Stripe account over $3,000 negative. I now can’t pay my quarterly taxes, they took virtual assistants I had on my team who I paid with those earnings and my business was forced to shut down as a result.
They claimed I was an "independent contractor," but the level of control, mandatory hours, and daily oversight I was subjected to clearly met the legal standards of an employee relationship. I’ve filed a formal complaint with the State of North Carolina and plan to take this further — all the way to the federal level if necessary.
To make matters worse, this company:
Is not legally registered in NC despite operating solely in the Triangle area,
Offers high-dollar construction services without proper licensing,
And has been using my father’s private office address without permission on public listings.
This has devastated me financially, mentally, and emotionally — but I refuse to stay silent.
I’m fighting not just for myself, but for every freelancer and small business owner who’s ever been taken advantage of.
The funds will be going to legal fees to fully dissolve my company without significant and personal financial harm.
Any funds remaining will be used to open my non-profit to help support individuals and small businesses facing similar crisis.
