Hello everyone, my name is Natalia, and I am writing on behalf of my childhood best friend Cheyenne Molina. Cheyenne and her husband, Diego, recently experienced a heartbreaking tragedy when their beloved kitty Luna passed away unexpectedly. Alongside the immense grief Cheyenne and Diego are facing after this devastating loss to their family, they are also dealing with the burden of expensive veterinary bills.
Luna began displaying signs of sickness on November 8th. She threw up a few times and stopped eating and drinking water. Cheyenne and Diego monitored her condition closely, but given Luna’s history with digestive issues, they chalked it up to an upset tummy. The next day, they tried to get her to eat and Cheyenne mouth-fed her water using a dropper. Unfortunately, Luna was not doing any better. She continued vomiting and appeared to be experiencing painful bodily contractions. On the morning of November 10, Cheyenne and Diego noticed that Luna’s stomach was swollen so they immediately rushed her to the vet. At the vet, Luna underwent several tests and x-rays. The veterinarian called Cheyenne and Diego and explained Luna’s diagnosis. She was diagnosed with a UTI, expanded bladder, and constipation. The veterinarian said that her blood work looked normal and explained the best course of treatment.
About an hour after this call, however, the veterinarian called and delivered the earth-shattering news that Luna had unexpectedly crashed and that they were performing emergency CPR to resuscitate her. Cheyenne and Diego raced back to the vet’s office and were informed that Luna was in critical condition. Ultimately, the veterinarian determined that because her condition was so severe, there was nothing more they could do to save her. Luna sadly passed away in the late afternoon of November 10th, accompanied by her loving parents Cheyenne and Diego.
Prior to these events, Cheyenne and Diego were experiencing financial setbacks due to Diego's recent layoff. Regardless, they were determined not to let their financial situation hinder Luna’s medical care. They applied for a veterinary loan up to $5,ooo, which they aimed to pay off via a monthly payment plan. Cheyenne and Diego hoped this loan would cover all of Luna’s exams and her treatment, with the expectation that she would return home with them later that night.
Since this tragic loss, the thought of making monthly payments for nearly 36 months to repay this debt is unbearable. To Cheyenne and Diego, these payments are not only financially burdensome, but they also serve as painful reminder each month that Luna is no longer with them. Since they adopted her in 2023, Luna became a precious member of the Molina family. As she grew, Cheyenne and Diego became aware that Luna had a disability. Despite being unprepared, Cheyenne and Diego educated themselves and provided Luna with all the accommodations she needed to live a comfortable life. Cheyenne often remarked that, given all the extra care and attention that Luna required, she genuinely felt like caring for Luna was akin to caring for a small child. To Cheyenne and Diego, Luna was their baby.
Cheyenne and Diego did not want to ask for support, in this climate where so many people are struggling financially, but I believe they deserve help during this difficult time. If you are in the financial position to do so, please consider donating to help alleviate the financial burden they are facing. Luna was the light of Cheyenne and Diego’s life. They would be deeply grateful for any donation you are able to give during this heartbreaking time.
