Support Chewie's Road to Recovery

Please help our family raise funds for the medical care of our recently returned dog who was rescued from a dangerous situation!

Chewie (Chewbacca) is our 15 year old long haired Chihuahua. He has been with me since I was 17, and he is my precious baby boy. On Sunday, June 13, he got out of our yard through a hole under our fence (which we now know was dug by the neighbor's dog). He was missing for 66 hours, and I was devastated. We did everything we could to find him, and I was convinced that he either was no longer with us or that someone had taken him.

According to the ANGEL couple who found Chewie, he was being physically dragged down the street the evening of June 15 by a woman (assumed to be homeless). He kept trying to stumble away from her but was too weak and would fall, which immediately prompted the couple that something was wrong. This couple helped rescue my dog from this woman and was determined to find his owner. Since the woman had taken his collar and tag off and he unfortunately wasn't microchipped, they drove around on June 16 until they saw my missing dog poster, and we were reunited on Father's Day!

While I am extremely grateful, relieved, and ecstatic that Chewie is back with us, he is having a rough time recovering from this ordeal. As if the emotional trauma of being away from his family out in the world and being kept by a strange woman wasn't enough, Chewie also sustained physical trauma. He has suffered extreme dehydration, nausea/vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, lack of strength, disorientation, mobility issues, and more. With fluid infusions and medications so far, Chewie is almost his normal, happy self who loves to cuddle and beg for people food. According to the vet, he has suffered kidney damage, so we are trying hard to reverse some of the effects and reduce his pain. We will find out soon if Chewie is on the uphill journey of healing or if he is in the official stages of chronic kidney failure.

We are currently at over $1200 and counting in vet bills to help him, and with a 10 month old baby and 2 cats to also support, our family is struggling to pay for the care Chewie desperately needs.
