Support Chester's Recovery Journey

Hi everyone! My name is Chester. I am a 1-year-old Golden Retriever pup. When's my birthday? Thank you for asking; it was Monday, September 9th. I have an amazing family! I have 4 people siblings and 2 loving parents. My dad works hard being the sole provider, and my mom is currently enrolled in a nursing program. Here's my story of why I am here....

On Friday the 13th, I was outside (tied to a leash) and I saw a truck. I love trucks, so I wanted to see it up close. Unfortunately for me, I got too close, and the truck struck me, nearly costing me my life.

The person did stop to ask if I was okay. I tried my best to hide it as I ran back to my family, but the damage was already done. After I was rushed to the emergency vet, my family learned that I had shattered my ankle, the trauma caused air in my lungs, severe paw pad avulsions (I lost my paw pads and have exposed bones), and an amputated toe. That was only the left side. The right hind leg has a comminuted right tarsal fracture (medial malleolus, medial trochlear ridge), and severe wounds over the right tibia. I also have lacerations to both legs that are very deep.

I have to go back to the vet every two days for wound care. Unfortunately, my wounds have already become infected, and they are talking about me possibly losing my limb. I have a walking harness so my loving family can move me around when needed as I can't walk or move around on my own, and I am in severe pain.

All of my care is very costly, and I may require a fusion of my ankle (I will have arthritis after this) and a possible amputation due to the severity of my injuries.

My parents are asking for donations to help with the costs of my care as the amount is currently exceeding $5,000.

Before this accident, I was a very happy and playful puppy that loved to run and play and be a goofball, which is why I earned the nickname (Dumbie). I am still young and have a long life to enjoy. That is why I want to live; which is also why my parents didn't put me down despite not being able to afford my care. Please help me get better as I have to take care of my human sibling who has a congenital heart defect, and she needs me to be there for her.
