I want to share a story of our friend Cheryl Lewis. Cheryl recently faced a terrifying medical emergency when a routine UTI turned into sepsis, pushing her body to the brink. Thanks to fast action advanced life-saving treatment that kept blood flowing to her heart and vital organs, Cheryl survived. While that treatment saved her life, it also came at a tremendous cost—Cheryl has lost both of her legs below the knees. The road ahead will require long-term, intensive medical care, rehabilitation, and support. Through it all, Cheryl remains in good spirits. She is a fighter, determined and committed to healing and rebuilding her life.
Many of us know Cheryl as the same vibrant, humorous person she’s always been. She grew up in Farmington, NM, where she was a standout basketball star—our top three-point shooter and leading scorer who helped take the Farmington High Scorpions to the playoffs in 1984. She treasures her lifelong friendships and never misses a class reunion, always eager to reconnect. Cheryl loves camping, fishing, and attending sporting events. Now living in Phoenix, Arizona, she loves catching Diamondback games, watching any and every one play basketball and is a diehard Green Bay Packer fan. She’s an artist with a gift for detailed drawings, loves music – some of her favorites still being the 80’s bands Duran Duran and INXS. Lastly, Cheryl has always been a huge animal lover and enjoys living with her family of cats and dogs.
Now, Cheryl is facing the challenge of finding a new way forward, and she’s taking it on the same way she always has—with grit, heart, and a sense of humor. Donations will help cover medical care, rehabilitation, and recovery, giving her the support she needs to focus on healing. This is our chance to step up, be in her corner, and help her keep moving toward the next win!
PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to donate please select "one-time donation" (unfortunately gofundme defaults to a monthly donation) unless you indicate otherwise. Thank you!
