Support Cherry's Brain Tumor Treatment

Update: unfortunately, Cherry has reached the end of the road with active treatment, meaning radiation will not be continued on the spine. The original plan was to do proton radiation of the spine starting two days ago; however, Cherry declined rapidly with vomiting and nausea and ended up back in the hospital at MDAnderson and was treated for these symptoms. An MRI showed further progression, and our medical team advised us that it is time to transition to comfort care at home. Jared and Cherry attempted to come home yesterday, but Cherry suffered two seizures before they could get back on the road home. I am currently sitting in the Charleston airport to fly out and meet them. Hopefully, we can get her stabilized enough to fly commercially home to Charleston and give her the best last few months we possibly can. Thank you all immensely for your support during this nightmare of a time. Your help and kind words have been felt and heard. I will continue to update everyone as much as I can. I love you all.

Update Time: Cherry finished proton radiation last Wednesday (3/19), and we flew back home Thursday (3/20). But, not for long, since Cherry’s Make-A-Wish trip took us to Orlando last Saturday thru Today! We did 7(!) parks in 6 days—legoland, magic kingdom, universal Harry Potter VIP tour and wand experience, universal most other parts, animal kingdom, hollywood studios/epcot, and sea world. It was a blast, but we’re excited to get back to Charleston for the week.

Update 2: Since arriving at MDA a little over two weeks ago, we’ve had our share of ups and downs. The first week here, we got “upgraded” to an inpatient hospital room for a chemotherapy medicine to be administered. Cherry decided she must’ve liked the room too much and spiked a fever, prompting an additional

hospital night stay.

Anyhow, after the three nights and two days of hospital food and a dad bed for me (I now understand, fellas), we have been settling into our apartment nearby for over week now.

Unfortunately, Cherry’s tumor had progressed since surgery and new “spot” has occurred in the frontal lobe. She is currently on day 5 of proton therapy for both.

All in all, Cherry is doing very well! She’s a little more sleepy than usual, but she is tolerating treatment like a champ and may have some of her mamma’s attitude when dealing with the constant questions of doctors, nurses, social workers, etc.

Update: we are in Houston, and Cherry had to have another brain and spine MRI to determine if there was more progression and/or metastasis since surgery. We are currently in the hospital at MDAnderson, where they admitted her yesterday to begin her chemotherapy treatment ASAP. Cherry has an advanced brain tumor, and we need to travel to Houston for her treatment. Any help is good and we appreciate all of the love and support we have gotten so far. However, right now, we need monetary support.
