In September 2018, I gave birth to my daughter, my rainbow baby. I began getting ill around February and went to the Dr. about 3-4 times over the course of 2 months. I was breastfeeding my daughter and as I thought, we were passing the illness between the two of us. Fast forward, I never got better, just isolated myself home pretty much to not spread what I had, a cold.  I went to the ER with a terrible stomach ache and waited until my husband came to the hospital. They initially thought that I had appendicitis. It turned out to be something more worse. At that point I personally lost all memory of what happened until a month and a few days later. After I regained my own thoughts, I began to ask questions. I was told, I was septic, organs began to shut down and I noticed the biggest affect, I became a quadriplegic. In the midst of it all, my husband, family and friends were all praying that God would bring me back to them.

I was in the hospital from April 23rd to November 27th. During that time, I went through memory lost, lost my ability to speak and complete function of my body. I wasn’t able see my children for 2 months. The children they were before this ordeal were not the children I returned to. My baby girl looked at me like a stranger and wanted nothing to do with me. My loving son though still loving now has a tainted smile. I can see his hurt and confusion, I can feel his disconnect. I work and pray everyday to rebuild those bonds.

Through physical, occupational and speech therapy, I regained  some function in my body. However, I have not been able to use my legs to stand or use my hands. The way the government is set up, my family doesn’t qualify for any assistance we’ve applied for . You think it, we’ve applied. Throughout this process, our savings have been depleted. With a mountain of medical bills and regular life expense for a family, it’s become a struggle to maintain our daily living.I have had to stop all therapy because I no longer have insurance. With whatever you can donate please do so. It would help our family tremendously and help me get back to therapy. Being a mom of 2 small children under 5 requires us to put pride aside to ask for help. So if it’s in your heart, please help us.
