Support Cheri's Fight Against Cancer Recurrence and stroke

Donation protected
In 2011, I received a phone call in the middle of the day from my best friend Cheri. I immediately could tell from the sound of her voice that something was wrong. She proceeded to tell me the pain in her shoulder that the doctors dismissed (for 9 months) as a pulled muscle was, in fact, bone cancer. Two years later, she traveled to MD Anderson to remove the tumor, but they were unable to save her arm. Life drastically changed for Cheri as she had to relearn how to do the simplest tasks we take for granted (putting our hair in a ponytail, putting a sock on, cutting a piece of food). Not once did she complain but remained faithful to the Lord for saving her life.

In 2022, Cheri was diagnosed with breast cancer. Once again, she had unwavering faith and thanked everyone for their prayers and support.

After 13 years, MD Anderson released her as “Cancer Free” from her chondrosarcoma (bone cancer). Unfortunately, what the doctors thought last year was a bone spur in her neck was, but unfortunately it was chondrosarcoma again.

Cheri was devastated and asked what she could do. They offered her a trial drug at MD Anderson. For the last couple of months, she has been traveling every week to Texas from Louisiana, staying in hotels and at a friend of a friend’s house occasionally when she could to help save money. The weekly drives, blood withdrawals, medication, tests, etc., were beginning to take a toll on her.

This past Sunday, while getting ready for church, Cheri felt dizzy and called for her husband. When he got to their room, he had to call 911 because Cheri had a stroke. Thankfully, it was a mild stroke that only affected her vision and speech for a day, but she is still having difficulty walking and is doing inpatient therapy in Hammond, La.

I have known Cheri for 36 years. She is my hero. She has been through floods during hurricanes that destroyed her home, cancer diagnoses time after time, and she just keeps pushing forward without complaining.

I would like to raise money to help offset medical bills, travel expenses as she continues this trial drug to hopefully shrink the new growth in her neck, and maybe even allow her to take a trip to decompress (she has never traveled anywhere elaborate or even gone out of the country). She is kind, giving, soft-spoken, and a true angel, and I hope we can help her during this difficult time.

Thank you!
