Support Chelsea’s fight against ultra rare cancer

We are raising funds to help Chelsea Romero through a one-in-a-billion cancer diagnosis.
Chelsea Romero, MD, MPH, is a recent graduate from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston McGovern Medical School. And she’s beaten the odds before. When her son was born, Chelsea suffered a massive postpartum hemorrhage, losing 8L of blood, and needed an emergency hysterectomy to save her life. Since that day in December 2023, she has seen every day as a gift.
Just a week after graduating medical school, Chelsea was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT), a rare and aggressive sarcoma that is nearly universally fatal. But Chelsea is determined to be a survivor, not a statistic. She is facing this diagnosis, and her mortality, head-on, determined to stay here as long as possible with her son, Taí, and her husband, Mario.
Instead of starting residency in OBGYN at Houston Methodist Willowbrook, Chelsea started chemotherapy at MD Anderson. That means this family just went to a single income. This fundraiser is meant to help close the gap between Chelsea’s expected intern salary and the many costs of treatment: enormous medical bills, the cost of gas and parking to reach the Texas Medical Center, meals, and everyday expenses. Every dollar helps. Let’s help Chelsea make this one-in-a-billion diagnosis history.
