Hello, my name is Chelsea Scarberry.
Unfortunately, I’ve experienced a serious medical incident that has put me out of work for a while. I’m not someone who usually asks for help, and this is very humbling and honestly a bit embarrassing for me, but right now, I don’t have another choice.
On September 26th, I went to the hospital because I was very sick. During a spinal tap procedure, the doctors accidentally hit a blood vessel, which caused bleeding into my spine. The blood formed a hematoma that pressed on the bundle of nerves controlling the lower half of my body. Most of the blood has absorbed, but my doctor believes it caused nerve and spinal damage, which explains why I’m still in so much pain and struggling to walk.
I spent three weeks in the hospital, and now I’m in a nursing home for physical and occupational therapy. I’ll be here a little while longer before I can go home. When I do, I’ll be using a walker and need to buy several tools and supplies to help me do basic things on my own. I still rely heavily on my family and friends for help, as I’m very unsteady on my feet, in constant pain, and can barely walk or get up without shaking.
Beyond the physical challenges, this has taken a huge mental and emotional toll on me. Being away from my kids for weeks as a single mom has been heartbreaking, and I’m trying to figure out how to keep our home and bills paid while I focus on recovery.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my story. Anything you can do to help means the world to me…whether it’s a donation, sharing this post, or simply keeping me and my kids in your thoughts and prayers. I’m beyond grateful for your love and support.
