My name is Michelle Cabrera and I'm raising funds for my best friend, Chelsea Bonilla.

We met almost 4 years ago in a swim class when our sons hadn't even learned to speak yet. I was immediately drawn to her deep attentiveness, loving care, sincere warmth and authenticity, hilarious humor, and lightness of her mothering style. Little did I know, she was just as hungry for community and chosen family in another mom as I was. We were immediately drawn to each other and have become inseparable since. Our sons are best friends and have been growing up like brothers.

Chelsea, the first in her family to attend college, has tenaciously been studying to become a Registered Nurse and is only a mere semester and change (~8 months) from finishing the program. She remains in great standing in her program, long after many of her peers have dropped out for various reasons. However, in the recent 2 weeks, she has become a single mother to her 5-year-old son, Pablo IV.

On the precipice of all the unknowns of her and her son's situation, Chelsea is desperately scrambling to figure out how she will afford rent, utilities, groceries, and all the necessary bills it takes to raise a little boy... all whilst completing the rigorous studies of nursing school and working part-time. She WILL complete her nursing program in May 2026 (failure is NOT an option) and has full-time work lined up immediately following her graduation. But until then, she risks losing the home and routine she has worked so hard to build for herself and her son.

I have never known another mother as fierce and fearless as she. I know with utmost certainty that the love and care she shows her son and family directly translates to how she cares for her patients - she is an exceptional nurse! I aspire to be the mother she is, and my heart breaks for all the ways she may struggle without your help. Any and all help she receives would be the hugest blessing to her so that she and her son's routines are minimally affected. All she needs is help until she graduates in May 2026.
