At the Sigma Phi Epsilon Washington Beta chapter house at 1906 Northeast 45 Street, Seattle, Washington, we have had the privilege of having Myles Vasquez as our in-house chef for the past three years. Chef Myles spends long hours five days a week, twice a day, commuting to the house and preparing food for 50+ people, with meals for the whole chapter of 90 on Mondays. He makes great food, but beyond that, is a kind, respectful, and friendly member of our household that we all care for greatly.
Recently, Myles called out of work one evening to visit the hospital, and was subsequently diagnosed with cancer out of the blue. The cancer is treatable and treatment has already seen success, but getting diagnosed with cancer in one's 40s is obviously incredibly stressful and scary, especially as Myles has been unable to take much time off work to recover from numerous surgeries.
While he continues to cook amazing food for the house, we want to give back to him by helping him out. This effort is mainly to make up for two weeks lost income from his intensive initial surgery, as well as for upcoming loss of income due to missed work (for other appointments and surgeries), and to help with related costs. We hope to provide him with more time to recover so that he doesn't have to battle cancer and work full time simultaneously. Myles should be cancer free before the New Year, and we hope this fundraiser helps him out during this difficult time and shows him how much we appreciate him.
