Support Chef Mark Spangenthal's Cancer Battle

Food Fire + Knives is your premier network of private chefs and personal home chefs for an in-home dining experience. Our mission has always been to support local chefs through freedom of creativity, schedule flexibility, and deserved pay for one of the toughest and lowest-paid industries.

One of our chefs, Mark Spangenthal, has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of terminal brain cancer called glioblastoma. This GoFundMe project is to help him and his wife with the medical bills and care that he needs during this challenging time.

As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Mark has worked in some of New York City’s most exciting kitchens. Having worked up the ladder at the venerable Gotham Bar Grill to the level of Sous Chef, he then went on to become the Executive Chef at several of his own restaurants. This is where Chef Mark was reviewed by the New York Times, earning three stars once and two stars at three other restaurants. He has also been acknowledged by many periodicals of the food world as well as from local and national newspapers. Chef Mark has moved to Asheville in order to get a little closer to nature and spend time cultivating an expansive kitchen garden and farmstead with his wife, Laura.
