Support Chef Josef's Care & Recovery After Stroke
Donation protected
Our favorite chef, husband, father, and Opa needs your love and support.
On September 1, 2023, Josef suffered a severe stroke that impacted the area of his brain controlling his vision and cognition. Fortunately, his wife Jill was able to get Josef to the hospital quickly, and after spending multiple days in an induced coma surrounded by family, Josef awoke. We are so thankful he survived. Unfortunately, Josef lost his vision completely, in addition to his short-term memory, and much of his physical strength. While the prognosis for his vision returning is not good, his short-term memory is improving and he is slowly making progress physically. When he is feeling strong enough, his humor and charisma are still very much in-tact!
Josef has been in the hospital for quite some time now, and is finally set to be released with the understanding that he will need long-term, round the clock care and support. As such, Josef will be moving in with his son Oliver and his family, with support from Jill and other family members, as he continues to recover and learns to navigate his new reality as a member of the blind community.
Our family is working to get everything Josef needs as we prepare for him to come home, including in-home nursing support not covered by insurance and IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services), equipment (walkers, wheelchair, hospital bed), and likely many things we are not even considering yet.
We appreciate any and all prayers you can give as Josef recovers. And if you would like to contribute to Josef's care, you can do so through this page. Thank you for all of your love and support for Josef and his family. We truly cannot express our thanks enough.
