Support Cheap Water Purification Systems

Hello! My name is Miguel, and I am a rising engineering student at CNM. With a mix of intensive chemistry & physics knowledge, a desire for environmental maintenance, and personal familial ties to the Odessa region, I am excited to share my new project with you: a low-cost, time-efficient, and energy-efficient compound wastewater filter for fracking processes in the Permian Basin (which includes Odessa, Texas).

After a lot of research dedicated to this project, I want to begin creating a simple 15-gallon filtration system. However, as you may know, every engineer is at the will of the dollar, and unfortunately, that's holding back the development of affordable water filtration solutions.

So, why does the produced wastewater from fracking even pose an issue? When water is injected into the ground to induce cracks, it resurfaces with various types of pollutants. This water is legally allowed to be dumped in nearby streams, possibly entering drinking water sources for local communities, and disrupting nearby soil and aquatic ecosystems. Going beyond environmental concerns, these pollutants have been linked to serious health issues, including many types of cancers!

That's why I'm passionate about creating affordable and portable filtration systems. They can make a real difference in protecting the health of people living near oil and gas sites, and they can also help mitigate delayed seismic risks related to produced water disposal wells.

Unfortunately, existing compound filters are too expensive, leading to harmful practices like dumping the water. My project focuses on a compound filter with multiple filtration steps to tackle different constituents, while still maintaining focus on cheap development and operational costs.

I want this project not just to create a filtration system that functions under the discussed constraints, but to enhance the quality of life for my family and the many other individuals affected by pollution and environmental issues. I've put together a detailed funding report that includes a cost breakdown, more info about the filtration systems, and the processes used to test the effectiveness of my filter. I'd love for you to read it to receive more information! Please access here: Funding Proposal PDF
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or if you'd like more information. Whether you can afford to provide a little or a large amount, any amount helps in the process of yielding pure water for everyone.

Thank you so much for your interest, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Warm regards,
Miguel A. Gonzalez del Castillo
