In 2020, before Chaz and I got married, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). My OBGYN told me this would cause a lot of issues attempting to get pregnant. When the time finally came that we wanted to extend our family in 2021, we saw an OBGYN in North Carolina where we were stationed. I got a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) done and the Dr found one fallopian tube to be nonresponsive. This of course broke our hearts a bit, but the Dr told us one is just as good as two and to not worry until we had to. We weren't stationed too long in North Carolina. After our Dr gave me Clomid, which is supposed to help ovulation, we found that it wasn't working for me. Our Dr suggested that the only next step was to go through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
In 2023, we moved to Fort Stewart and began seeing a new infertility Dr. This infertility Dr performed more tests and trials than the last and provided us with so much more reassurance. Even so, we found out that I didn't have a nonresponsive fallopian tube. Instead, the Dr advised us that I have Uterus Didelphys. This is a super rare condition where I was born with 2 uteruses. Each uterus has its own fallopian tube and ovary. However, I also have a septum right down the middle separating both cervix. So with PCOS and Uterus Didelphys, the Dr gave us new methods of treatment. However, these methods have all unfortunately failed. So, the Dr suggested the next steps are IVF. This is because any other means of infertility treatment may result in multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) which is not even an option for someone with my condition. It can cause many health risks for not only the possible babies, but for me as well. As heartbreaking as all of this is, we still have hope that we will one day be able to expand our family with IVF.
However, IVF is not covered by insurance. The treatments are estimated through our doctor to be $15,000 a cycle. The cycle would last longer for us though since I can only have one fertilized egg placed at a time to avoid the possibility of multiples. Anything given, even prayers, would help our dream of being able to expand our family. Thank you all so much.
