It is horribly unfair that I need to ask twice in as many months for help for this family. No one should have to go through the grief of loss and find out that they have stage 3 cancer amid the crisis of the unexpected loss of her dear brother.
Chauncey knew something was wrong even as she traveled to her brother's celebration of life and stopped at a hospital on her way to and from this heartbreaking event. It took several doctor visits for the problems to begin to be apparent, and she found herself awaiting surgery in a hospital instead of at the second memorial for her brother held in their hometown.
A month later, the full weight of the prognosis has hit: Chauncey will need cancer treatment for 3 years and has stage 3 cancer. She suffered a life-threatening blood clot due to the tumor, which cannot be removed at this time, and it has affected several of her organ systems.
Chauncey has 4 children who need her. She even has 2 grandchildren, (but she's one of those grandmas who seem way too young for the part). Chauncey has always worked her butt off to raise these kids, and those who know her know a dynamic, driven and always-in-motion person, hustling to keep healthy food on the table, make sure each kid has every opportunity to live up to their talents, and still have hugs to spare. Amid all of life's struggles, I have only ever seen her speak with the tenderest love to her babies. She has contributed sparkle, humor and sass to every room she has entered, and we are not ready for this to go away. While Chauncey has spent her life uplifting the talents of her kids, her family, her friends, she is a gifted herbalist, gardener, grower, and creatrix in her own right.
Chauncey's parents have just experienced a devastating loss of their son, and Chauncey's own grief has been profound and debilitating. Help me in bringing hope to the family and to Chauncey. We need her here, her children need her here. She needs to believe she can get through this, and that the world still requires her light. Please let her know in any way, big or small, that you can. Stay tuned for meal coordination, too!
