Northview High School Volleyball is hosting their second Silent Set Night to support Chasing Greatness. Chasing Greatness was started by Penn State alum, and Ohio native, Jonni Parker. Chasing Greatness is organized to support persons 18 years and younger with hearing loss by creating funding opportunities for hearing aids and the enhancement of life skills. Our wish is to spread awareness about individuals who experience hearing loss and educate others about the topic. Our team strives to expand the development skills needed to contribute to a greater society. Opportunities will include building upon leadership attributes, athletic skill development, and personal growth qualities such as character building and positive self-pride.

This year, our match vs. Whitmer at home on September 18th, will be our Silent Set Night. Both Northview and Whitmer volleyball will encourage fans to silently cheer for their teams in support of hard-of-hearing communities. Fans are asked to remain silent from the match’s first serve until Northview scores its ninth point. That number is no coincidence, though. Jonni Parker, who wore No. 9, was born with a rare condition that only allows her to hear about 40% in her left ear and 45% in her right. She’s worn hearing aids since age 4. In addition, with this special celebration, we support our very own Gia Varwig (Northview Volleyball senior), who is also a hearing-impaired athlete. Being able to raise funds to support Chasing Greatness will allow us to give back to a community we have all been touched by.

In addition, we will have a few other items and a 50/50 sale during the match and t-shirts sales which will benefit Chasing Greatness.
