Support Charlotte Rose Harris’ Healing Journey

My brother Scott and sister in law Adriana welcomed their first child, a healthy daughter named Charlotte Rose just in time for Thanksgiving. Shortly after Christmas, Charlotte become very ill and was soon admitted to the hospital. She was later transported to a second hospital (Children’s Hospital, PHX) which was better equipped to meet her needs, where she will remain for the unforeseeable future.

Her fragile little body has been put through the wringer with multiple invasive but necessary procedures and testing (including two spinal taps) throughout the last three weeks, with many questions still left unanswered. What we do know is that somewhere along the line a rare bacterial infection has damaged her digestive tract. As a result, her body has struggled to absorb nutrients, gain/maintain body weight, maintain body temperature, among other things. Initially, she was put on a feeding tube but due to severe inflammation of the stomach lining they have resorted to administering total parenteral nutrition (TPN) through a PICC line to allow her stomach and intestines time to heal and regenerate. Unfortunately, due to her age and circumstances her immune system is significantly delicate. Once they feel it is safe, they will perform a stomach biopsy. We are praying the results of that will give her doctors more answers and a clearer direction of how to move forward in healing this precious baby. Her hemoglobin is currently low, requiring a blood transfusion.

Scott and Adriana are among the hardest working people I know. However, nobody could have predicted these circumstances. Adriana remains by Charlottes side 24/7, unable to return to work in the foreseeable future as a supervisor in dermatology. Scott, a fire protection contractor and inspector, has been juggling his career and things at home in between being at the hospital with his wife and daughter as much as humanly possible.

Unfortunately, our family lives 2,000+ miles away, which limits our ability to offer our support for them in other ways during this time. We are helpers by nature, which is what brings me to this platform and the reasoning for creating this fundraiser. As Scott and Adriana navigate one of parent’s worst nightmares, my hope is to alleviate some of the financial stress and worry during this time so that they can focus as much energy on being there for Charlotte and one another for whatever comes next. Medical bills add up quickly, as well as the financial toll of unexpectedly providing on one income while navigating the obstacles of a very sick infant.
