The news was a shock to everyone, and his family rallied around him as his condition worsened. Last Thursday, Charlie received the life-changing news that a donor match had been found just in time. The surgery was a success, and now begins the long road to recovery.

Charlie, his wife Colleen, and their son Jason and daughters Janelle and Jessica have faced many challenges together. Janelle and Jessica have been by their parents’ side every step of the way, taking Charlie to countless doctor’s appointments, both local and out of town. Jason doesn’t live locally but has been there to support him as often as possible both in Gillette and Colorado. The girls visit their parents’ home twice daily to check Charlie’s vitals, manage medications for both parents, and handle errands and shopping. With the transplant complete, the family must now stay in Denver for about two months—first in the hospital, then nearby—to ensure Charlie’s body accepts the new liver and to monitor for any complications. This extended stay is a significant financial burden, especially as Janelle and Jessica have to miss work and leave their own families in Wyoming to care for Charlie and Colleen.
