As of February 2026, Charlie remains hospitalized at BCH and has become a face for the heart program. He is on the heart transplant list and must live at the hospital until his perfect match arrives. Charlie continues to grow, learn, and win the hearts of everyone around him as he makes the hospital his home away from home.

At this time, Charlie's family remains split between home in MS and Boston, where Charlie and one parent reside at BCH until he receives a transplant. Your generous donations to date have helped ease some of the financial burden during this extended stay, including travel expenses so his other parent and sibling can see him.

Charlie Garrett, son of Matt and Kasey Garrett, underwent open-heart surgery at Boston Children's Hospital on March 3, 2025. Charlie, age 2, was born with a rare congenital heart defect called levo-transposition of the great arteries (L-TGA). In his first year of life, he had 2 heart surgeries at UMMC in Jackson, MS, and received a pacemaker.

Charlie's parents traveled to BCH to garner their expertise and experience with L-TGA. His family arrived in Boston in mid-February 2025 for pre-op testing, and Charlie remains hospitalized at BCH after undergoing a 12+ hour surgery, followed by an ICU stay. Only one parent is allowed to sleep bedside at the hospital, so they are leasing an apartment nearby. Additional expenses for this hospitalization include daily meals, airfare, and medical costs not covered by insurance.
