Charlie Garrett, son of Matt and Kasey Garrett, underwent open-heart surgery at Boston Children's Hospital on March 3, 2025. Charlie, age 2, was born with a rare congenital heart defect called levo-transposition of the great arteries (L-TGA). In his first year of life, he had 2 heart surgeries at UMMC in Jackson, MS, and received a pacemaker.

Charlie's parents traveled to BCH to garner their expertise and experience with L-TGA. His family arrived in Boston in mid-February for pre-op testing, and Charlie remains hospitalized at BCH after undergoing a 12+ hour surgery, followed by an ICU stay. Only one parent is allowed to sleep bedside at the hospital, so they are leasing an apartment nearby. Additional expenses for this hospitalization include daily meals, airfare, and medical costs not covered by insurance.
